Beachy Birthday

To celebrate sweet Ellie turning six this Wednesday, we had a beach party for her in Bob and Mary's backyard!

As a surprise, we borrowed this awesome water slide from our friends, the Kings.  (Talk about generous!!)
We also had a slip-n-slide and two pools set up to be sure that no one died of heatstroke got too hot.  The littlest pool's water got pretty warm, so the kids dubbed it the 'hot tub.'  Several times I saw at least five kids just lounging around in the 'hot tub' like they were at some fancy resort!
The plan for the party was to let the kids play from one until two, then round everyone up for cake and presents.  That way they could still have time to play afterwards.  At exactly 2:00 p.m., all of the adults perked up when we heard thunder.  Bob immediately checked the radar and determined that we had enough time to sing and blow out candles outside, but then we had to head up to the deck.
Rain never came, but the thunder would not stop, so the kids did not get to go back to the water fun.  I think it was perfect, though!  The weather was not as oppressively hot as it has been because it was overcast, plus the kids had plenty of time to play!
Robbie was relieved that the party ended a little early, too!  He was a complete rock star on Saturday...lifting and watching kids and putting up and taking down a massive water slide and just doing things I can't do being seven months pregnant!
Another birthday party surprise?  Nana and Papa brought Charlotte!!  These cousins love each other!!
The only down part of the whole day was that Mary Claire was sick and could not come to the party.  Yes, that would be the reason she has on a t-shirt, diaper, and stickers all over.  Nana was wonderful and stayed home with her while the rest of us went to the 'beach.'
Today MC is much better and we are still talking about Ellie's fun party!  Playing with all of Ellie's new toys has been fun, too!  Now we are looking forward to Wednesday, El's real birthday!
