Oh, the Contrast

This time last year Ellie started taking ballet on Mondays at 11:15. This time last year I also had a nursing newborn, and a newly potty trained three-year-old. Why I thought I could take on anything on a weekly basis is beyond me.
Case in point...even getting dressed for ballet was a challenge. Ellie's hair was supposed to be pulled back (yeah, right!), and getting tights on her was a chore. Let's add the fact that I never tried on Ellie's ballet shoes because they just looked like they would fit. Mary Claire had to be nursed, plus I had to find something cute to put on her. I wanted to look half-way decent, but none of my non-maternity shirts would fit over my boobs, and I felt like a hippo in everything I owned. Makes for a fun morning.
Once we finally got out the door, it took a good ten minutes longer to get to ballet than I thought it would. So, here we are ten minutes late not knowing exactly where to go for the class. I am hauling both kids, a diaper bag, and have sweat pouring off of me. I find a ballet class in progress, but I know it's not Ellie's because the girls have on pink leotards, and Ellie has on a black one. I read the whole manual about ballet, so I know that she is required to wear a black leotard. This is when one of my friends sees me frantically searching the hallway and informs me that the pink leotard class is indeed Ellie's. We put Ellie's shoes on (they fit!), and in she goes looking like the black sheep (literally!) of the class. And of course, the first day of class is when they have a ten minute after-class orientation, so everyone sees that my kid is the one in the wrong color leotard.
Fast forward one year...Ellie's pink leotard and tights are ready to go. Her ballet shoes fit. Her hair is more cooperative this year. My boobs are back to normal. (Scratch that, boobs are never 'normal' once they've nursed two babies. They fit in my clothes, that's about the best I can say.) Mary Claire is drinking out of a cup and requires less attention than last year. I know that I can be out of the door in time for the class.
I know this is a silly thing to blog about, but it helps me put life with two chickies into perspective! What a difference a year makes!

If you think boobs are bad after nursings two babies, wait until three! Oh what we do for our kiddos! I always feel like once my babies reach a year old things get so much easier. Now that Rachel is potty training and I'm not pregnant, I don't really know what to do with myself! Thanks for sharing your experience with us, it really made me smile!!

I love when you post about things like this... it kinda makes the rest of us feel like we aren't the only ones going through things like this.
